The Hammond Novachord Restoration Project →

In the 1930s, the Hammond Organ Company created a piece of music technology insanely ahead of its time, out of nothing but sweat, grit, and ‘murrica dammit. Unfortunately, it was the 1930s, so the raw power of this instrument was harnessed primarily to produce electronic fart effects for science fiction movies. As a man enamored by the myriad wonders of Mexican cuisine, however, I can’t hate too much on that.

Today’s post chronicles one man’s epic journey to restore one of these instruments to life and the surprisingly beautiful sound that comes out at the end.
